Lower Back & Hip Pain

Are you one of the 3. 7million with back pain ?

“Back problems” describes a collection of conditions related to the bones, joints, soft tissue, muscles and nerves of the back. These conditions can affect the neck (cervical spine), upper back (thoracic spine) and lower back (lumbar spine) as well as the sacrum and tailbone (coccyx).

The cause of Back problems

  • Pain and stiffness in the lower, middle and upper back caused by a range of injuries, repetitive-monotonous movements and postural problems

  • Pain including tingling, numbness and weakness in the legs that starts from the lower back

  • Degeneration of the spine caused by unbalanced wear and tear on the spinal discs and joints

  • Pressure on a spinal nerve as it exits between two vertebrae

Powerhouse Approaches to Relief

At Powerhouse, our approach to treating headaches and migraines is holistic and individualized. Here are some natural methods we use to help our patients find relief:

  • Misalignments in the spine can contribute to tension headaches and migraines. Chiropractic adjustments help to realign the spine, reduce nerve irritation, and improve overall function. Cervico-genic headaches and migraines (cerivco-genic means “from the neck”) are one of the most common type of headaches and migraines based on recent literature.

  • Techniques such as deep breathing exercises and other mindfulness practices can help reduce stress levels and prevent stress-related headaches. Stress for a lot of people is an exacerbating factor so even if the root of your issues aren’t stress, these strategies can help reduce their amplification and sensitivity to being re-triggered. These are generally overlooked and can be very effective if done properly.

  • Ergonomic assessments and changes to improve postural stress and load and can alleviate muscle tension and reduce the frequency of headaches. This isn’t just your desk set-up it also includes your sleeping posture, pillow, how you’re watching tv, driving and even breastfeeding can be a difficult position for the head and upper back.

  • Dehydration is a common trigger for headaches. We emphasise the importance of staying well-hydrated throughout the day and teach the importance of salt and electrolyte balance for proper absorption.

  • Physical activity promotes overall health and can help reduce the frequency and severity of headaches as long as the movements are appropriate in their intensity, duration and the movements being used. At Powerhouse we are experts discerning what is appropriate for you at any given time. While movement is always recommended, the wrong prescription can be the difference between relief and another headache.
